The Career-Change CV: A Practical Guide

Switching industries? Here's how to structure your CV so transferable skills shine and the gap in domain experience disappears.

Lead with a strong summary State your target role and the transferable thread. Example:

"Operations manager pivoting into product management. 6 years shipping cross-functional projects, with a recent Reforge product certificate and a side product live with 2k users."

Reframe past achievements in target-role language Before: "Managed a 12-person warehouse team." After: "Owned end-to-end delivery for a 12-person operation, coordinating engineering, ops, and finance to ship daily."

Add a "Relevant Projects" section Side projects, courses, certifications, freelance work — anything that proves you're already operating in the new domain.

Drop irrelevant detail Older, off-track roles can become single-line entries.
